Donations and Memorials
You are welcome to contribute on behalf of yourself or another. Donations help fund materials purchases, technology upgrades, and more.
SMRLD Bookmobile
The Library needs your help to bring back Bookmobile services to Granite City, Mitchell, and Pontoon Beach! You might remember the Book Mobile if you grew up in Granite City. From approximately 1952 to 1995, the Library provided Book Mobile services that visited the schools throughout our service area. We are excited to bring such services back to our community. With a new Book Mobile, the Library will make scheduled stops at schools, parks, neighborhoods, and community events throughout Granite City, Mitchell, and Pontoon Beach. Individuals, families, or organizations may donate. Bookmobile Donations Can be Made Online Here or by check payable to SMRLD.
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library
In partnership with the United Way of Greater St Louis, SMRLD is leading the way to bring DPIL to 62040. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library puts books into the hands and hearts of children across our community by putting books into their homes. The Imagination Library mails more than 1.4 million high-quality, age-appropriate books each month to registered children from birth to age five. This program has been widely researched and results suggest positive increases in key early childhood literacy metrics. Studies have shown that having books in the home is proved to positively benefit children’s academic success, vocabulary development, attention, and job attainment. Individuals, families, or organizations may sponsor children. A donation of just $125 will support a child from birth until their 5th birthday, gifting them with 1 book a month for the duration. A gift of $25 will sponsor a child for one year. Donations can be made online here or by check payable to SMRLD.

StoryWalk® at Worthen Park
Six Mile Regional Library District, in partnership with the Granite City Park District, is excited to present the StoryWalk® at Worthen Park, 2599 Parkview Drive.
A StoryWalk is an innovative way to get people of all ages out walking while reading children’s picture books thereby combining nature and physical activity with literacy.
Pages of a picture book are transformed into signs that are then laid out on a trail inviting families, children, and others to follow the path of pages. While reading along, participants will discover each of the 20 stations located throughout the park along the walking trail. These stations allow families to enjoy activities focused on reading, singing, movement, and other skills which are crucial to early literacy.
The StoryWalk is a free activity available to all residents during the park’s open hours.
The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson and developed with the help of Rachel Senechal, formerly of the Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Vermont over a decade ago. You can now find StoryWalk® projects installed in all 50 states and internationally in countries including, Germany, Canada, England, Bermuda, Russia, Malaysia, Pakistan and South Korea.
Individuals, families, or organizations may sponsor a month of Six Mile Regional Library District (SMRLD) StoryWalk for $75. The sponsor’s name or logo will be featured on the opening frame of the StoryWalk located in Worthen Park.
Each donation will contribute to the cost of supplies, including book copies, lamination, and mounting paper. Books will be prepared in advance and installed by library staff. Each book will be displayed for approximately one month.

StoryWalk® contruction was funded with a Public Library Per Capita Grant awarded to the Six Mile Regional Library District from the Illinois State Library, a Department of the Office of the Secretary of State – 2022
The Friends of the Library work to increase public awareness of all library services and facilities. The group assists in bringing funds and materials to the Six Mile Regional Library District to use for special needs beyond the command of the library budget.
Volunteens
Want to help out at your library? Excellent! Our volunteens can help out in a few different areas:
- Children’s Programs – You can help onsite at our summer reading programs.
- Computer Assistance – You can help others learn and navigate technology.
- Homework Assistance – You can help children and peers succeed in school.
- Bilingual Opportunities – Can you speak a second language? You could help us help our community.
- Teen Advisory Group (TAG) – You can help improve Teen services at the library. See more about TAG below.
- Friends of the Library (FOL) Book Sale – You can assist the Friends of the Library with their annual book sales.

Teen Advisory Group
The Teen Advisory Group (TAG) are volunteens ages 13-17 who want to make the library a better place for teens.
We always welcome new TAG members!
Benefits of Being a TAG member:
- Earn community service or volunteer hours (looks great on a resume or college application)
- Make new friends
- Suggest books, movies, CDs, and other materials for the library
- Plan programs and events that YOU and your friends want
- Be an active part of making the library better for our teen customers
- Special TAG-member only events

The mission of the Six Mile Regional Library District Teen Advisory Group (TAG) is to promote and enhance library services for the teens served by the library district by:
- Encouraging use of the library by teens by promoting the library, its services, and activities at school and in the community
- Advising the Teen Services Librarian in material selection and collection development
- Providing input and information to staff on issues of importance to teens
- Planning and participating in teen programs

Donating Materials
We accept many types of donated materials, including books, magazines, DVDs and Blu-rays. Some materials may be added to our collection, while many will be sold at the Friends of the Library book sales or book carts.
