Full-Time Materials Services Manager

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Six Mile Regional Library District is conducting a search for a Materials Services Manager.  The person in this position maintains the effective and efficient management and daily operational functions of the district’s collections while being an integral part of the overall management team of the library.

Are you a service-oriented manager?  Do you have experience supervising staff while developing programs, services, and collections in a public library?  Are you interested in working with an organization that embraces change?  Do you enjoy leading from the middle?  If so, you might be just the person for us and we might be the right place for you.

We are looking for friendly, confident, energetic, and highly motivated individuals with superb customer service, practical problem-solving skills, the ability to make independent decisions, strong interpersonal people and communication skills, and great technical skills to join our SMRLD team.  Experience with community engagement is highly desirable.

This position includes participation, involvement, and engagement with community groups, partnerships, organizations, boards, and committees.  Primary responsibilities include ensuring the effective and efficient daily operations of the materials services department; maintaining positive relationships among staff, patrons, communities, and others; scheduling staff to ensure adequate coverage at all times; and managing people.

The person in this position also occasionally staffs the research (reference) desk, provides reference and readers advisory services, identifies and/or participates in programs and services, assumes responsibility for collection development functions, and makes recommendations to further our goals and enhance our role in the community.  Our team is comprised of a staff of thirty, which includes seven other professional librarians.

We pay competitively; offer IMRF pension; 4 weeks of paid vacation, 120 hours of sick leave annually, and 15 paid holidays; and health insurance.

We support continuing education with paid attendance at state and national conferences; online and in-person workshops, webinars, and meetings; and other training opportunities.  The library subsidizes professional and local organizational memberships.

We are a progressive library that embraces new ideas and services.  Situated just six miles east of St. Louis, Missouri, we enjoy all the benefits of a “big city”: world-class amenities such as professional sports teams, symphony, theater, zoo, botanical gardens, museums, restaurants, travel access, universities, and more while retaining our small town identity.  Our downtown district, where the library is located, is a vibrant growing arts community.  We enjoy outdoor concerts all summer long; a state-of-the-art cinema with first-run movies; a new indoor music and entertainment venue; a performance art theater; first Saturday, May through November open-air markets; as well as the Granite City Art and Design District.

Qualifications include a Master of Library Science degree from an ALA-accredited university and a minimum of two years of experience as a librarian.  Preference to applicants with experience managing and/or supervising people; handling budgets; vendor relations; strategic collection planning and/or collection management.  Experience in a union environment is a plus.

The Full-Time Materials Services Manager will work 40 hours a week.  This position is based at our Delmar Avenue location.
