Land Acknowledgement Statement

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

We would like to acknowledge that the Six Mile Regional Library District is located on the traditional territories of the Indigenous Peoples of this land. We recognize and respect that these lands have been the site of Indigenous Peoples’ stewardship, culture, and traditions since time immemorial.

We acknowledge the enduring relationship that exists between Indigenous Peoples and their traditional territories, and we honor the Indigenous Peoples who have lived on this land and continue to live here today. We acknowledge the historical and ongoing impact of colonialism, systemic discrimination, and forced assimilation on Indigenous Peoples in this country.

We recognize the need for reconciliation and healing between Indigenous Peoples and non-Indigenous Peoples in this country, and we commit to working towards this goal. We pledge to respect Indigenous Peoples’ inherent right to self-determination and to work towards building positive and meaningful relationships with the Indigenous Peoples of this land.
