Substitute Research and Instruction Librarian

Are you a self-starter who enjoys helping people and only wants to work every now and then? Do you have experience providing research services in a public library that embraces change? If so, you might be just the person for us.

The primary responsibilities for this position are to staff the research (reference) desk and performing ready reference, readers advisory, conducting searches, instructing customers on the use of computers, smartphones and tablets, helping customers write resumes and conduct job searches, and assisting customers with the use of library equipment.

Work is as-needed when regular staff is unavailable. Work could be between 9 am – 8 pm Monday through Thursday or 9 am – 5 pm on Fridays and Saturdays and can be for our Delmar Avenue or Johnson Road locations. Scheduled work can be from 4 to 8 hours a day.

Qualifications include a Master of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited university. A minimum of two years of reference experience at a public library is preferred. This is a contracted position, paid at an hourly rate. Please submit a cover letter and resume to [email protected]
