Designs to Avoid Disaster
Design to Avoid Disaster: In this activity, kids will compete to build the tallest structure that they can using household items—but there’s a catch: the structure must be stable enough to balance or hold a golf ball in a cup for at least five seconds at its top. When the time limit has ended, the tallest recorded structure wins! Buildings will also be tested for strength by standing up to the wrecking ball. In the end, students will walk away with fundamental concepts involved in the technological design process – and a link to a series of at-home activities hidden on our website.
