Full Time Reference Librarian (AKA Research and Instruction Librarian)

We are looking for friendly, confident, energetic, and highly motivated individuals with superb customer service skills and great technical and interpersonal skills to join our SMRLD team.
This position includes participation, involvement, and engagement with community groups, partnerships, organizations, boards, and committees. This position performs outreach to our homebound population. Primary responsibilities include working at the research (reference) desk, providing reference and readers advisory services, identifying and/or participating in programs and services, assuming responsibility for some collection development, and making recommendations to further our goals and enhance our role in the community. Our team is comprised of a staff of thirty, which includes five other professional librarians.

Qualifications include a Master of Library Science degree from an ALA-accredited university and a minimum of two years of experience at a public library. Preference to applicants fluent in more than one language.
The Full-Time Reference Librarian will work 40 hours a week. This position is usually assigned to our Delmar Avenue location.
As part of their job, the person in this position is a Passport Acceptance Agent for the US Department of State. The Library is a Passport Service Location. Training and support are provided.
Another part of their job, the person in this position oversees the Library’s participation in the Gateway EITC Community Coalition providing tax preparation assistance through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Training and support are provided.
